one stitch at a time
Each Topknot tie is made by a combination of machine and hand stitching, but the majority of the sewing is done by hand.
Each tie takes about 2.5 hours to make because it is mostly hand-stitched.
I like to use a different combination of fabrics for each tie (unless otherwise requested), so your Topknot tie is very likely to be a one-of-a-kind. I don't do this to be unique, but mostly because the best part of making ties is seeing which fabrics work together. I enjoy experimenting with unconventional fabrics: linen blends, textured cottons, wool - heck, I've even used material meant for tea towels (and it turned out beautifully).
Each Topknot tie is individually cut, pressed, and sewn in my living room.
For skinny ties, I follow the traditional tie-making method of cutting fabrics on the bias (on the diagonal of the fabric) to ensure that your tie sits nicely and maintains its shape.
I am open to the idea of making custom ties. If there is a fabric that you like on my site, or if you have something at home that is of sentimental value, please send me a note and we can discuss.
Let's make every day a casual tie day.
